Phantom 105.2 wins music radio station of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Full report will follow…..as soon as I calm down a bit!
Ok … feeling a bit better now (complete lie) so here’s a bit more of a review of the evening. PPI awards were at the soon to be demolished Burlington Hotel last night. About 800 people packed into the place and everyone looked very scrubbed up with frocks and monkey suits all round. Phantom’s own Laura-lee Conboy was the star though. Sadly I don’t have a picture yet but if she doesn’t make the Sunday papers I’ll be amazed.
As you know Phantom were nominated in three sections and sadly we were unlucky in all three. We always said that we were delighted to be just nominated (true) but it would have been amazing to win one of them and I had strong hopes for the three noms.
The sections were spread out over the hour and a half of the actual presentations and by the time it came to John Caddells section I think we were all a little bit low. We gave a big cheer regardless but I had the feeling that the night was going to be a little mellow after the awards. But then it came to announcing radio station of the year…..
This section is divided into three; local station of the year general content, local station music and national station of the year. Radio Kerry topped off a great night by taking the local general section big kudos to them! And then it came to our section. In this is more or less everyone….98FM, 104, Spin (who won last year) etc etc. The winners were being announced via an animation on a big screen of a roulette wheel with all the stations logos in place of the numbers and a ball bouncing around. The wheel turned and turned…..everyone glued to the screen. The ball bounced around and out of nowhere it landed on Phantom 105.2. I remeber very very little of the next 10 minutes. A lot of screaming, clapping, hugging and I’m sure I saw a few tears. Q102 gave us a standing clap which was nice and everyone seemed to be as shocked as us. Which was great.
The night went on after that…champagne flowed and brain cells burnt and I’m still grinning like a goon.
Big thanks must go out to the listeners. We won music station of the year and you pick most of the music so it’s your award as much as anyones. Now I’m off to sleep a little bit more!
